While our name may be new to One-Gauge model railroaders, M.T.H. Electric Trains is a seasoned model train manufacturer with a long history
of innovation. Over the past quarter-century, M.T.H. has grown from a
tiny business operated out of a spare bedroom to an 80+ employee company
headquartered in its own sprawling building in Columbia, Maryland.
Owner and founder Mike Wolf
got involved in model railroad manufacturing at the age of twelve. With
an entrepreneurial spirit and inherent business savvy, he began working
as a model train assembler for a neighbor who manufactured O gauge and
standard gauge trains in his basement. Over time, Mike was able to gain
extensive and valuable firsthand experience in all aspects of the industry,
including many trips to the Orient to work with overseas manufacturers.
His knowledge and skills eventually allowed him to form business relationships
with O gauge manufacturers Lionel, Williams, and Weaver Models. During
the early 1980s, Mike and a small band of employees - most of whom are
still with him - were the subcontractors behind a series of locomotives
that raised the bar for detail and running quality in 3-rail O gauge
model railroading. Ultimately, however, Mike and his crew struck out
struck out on their own.
Initially, their basic mission
was to sell model trains to a wide range of O gauge and standard gauge
enthusiasts. As M.T.H. Electric Trains began to grow, Mike's goals broadened,
allowing his firm to provide model railroaders with products of unmatched
quality, value, variety, and innovation. Before long, M.T.H. earned
a reputation for providing customers with products never before offered
and at affordable pricing to boot!
Today M.T.H. is driven to
introduce the world of model railroading to as many new hobbyists as
possible through its production of O Gauge, No. 1 Gauge, Standard Gauge
and HO Gauge trains and accessories, each of which are unique, appealing,
simple to operate, built to last, and fairly priced. M.T.H. also strives
to encourage the enthusiasm and excitement of long time model railroaders,
by presenting an ever-growing variety of engines, rolling stock, passenger
cars, and accessories to meet the requests of just about any collector
or model railroad operator.
With the model train industry
being as competitive as it is, M.T.H. long ago adopted a business philosophy
that was based on listening and responding to customer wishes for prototypes
of rare and unusual items. By simply acting on many of those requests,
it wasn't long before M.T.H.'s product line swelled to more than 8,700
different items!
Today's M.T.H. continues
to remain dedicated toward its goal of meeting a wide variety of customer
demands for its products and services. Hard work, adherence to detail
and the infusion of easy-to-use technology helps ensure that our products
exceed expectations while creating a fun and exciting model railroading
experience
